Our Photography Process
This project almost had an entirely different vibe when we first held up a bright orange backdrop to the scene, but our team decided that a dark wooden background would really pull together the feeling of making s’mores outdoors with your pals. After crafting our s’mores we used green styrofoam that is most commonly found in craft stores for floral arrangements. We positioned each s’more accordingly and then glued them in place to keep it really snug and secure.
Our main light was a large soft light source from the left, it was important to have a main light to come from only one direction so each angle of the chocolates has its own shade. This helps the image show dimension and really give the chocolate some depth.
Adding a backlight to this dessert helped to add a beautiful glow of light but it also helped to keep the many brown tones from blending into one another and looking like one big blur of brown. This is most predominant in the center focused marshmallow & chocolate.
Salted Caramel S’mores Recipe
Frango Chocolate is one of the Chicago food icons. You will love every flavor that they have to offer but I find myself snacking on the salted caramel more often than I am willing to admit. This recipe is such a creative way to share the chocolate love with others or even secretly just for yourself.
Hot Fudge (commonly used with ice cream)
Graham Crackers (Crushed)
Salted Caramel Frango Chocolate
Place the marshmallow on a treat stick, and leave additional space on top of the stick to add additional ingredients later. (This is the fun part, You get to play with fire) Using a cooking torch, evenly toast the marshmallow or burn it to a crisp, whatever floats your s’mores boat! Let the marshmallow cool for 5-10 min.
Once your marshmallow has cooled add a small amount of the heated hot fudge to the very top of the marshmallow. The chocolate will not dry hard so its okay to get a little drip down the sides. Let sit for 1 min.
Crush graham crackers and add them to a small bowl. Using the stick to help you tip the chocolate into the graham crackers and give your chocolate a light coating of crumbs.
Top off your stick with a piece of salted caramel chocolate.
Try to remember to share.
